Palm's new smartphone, the Pre, is off to a rolling good start and has plenty of room to grow, but it isn't likely to emerge as a solo iPhone killer, said ABI Research analyst Michael Morgan. His assessment comes amid widely reported news accounts of a note from Charter Equity Research estimating sales of the Pre approaching 400,000 in the month since it launched on the Sprint network. Apple sold more than 1 million iPhone 3GS handsets in its first three days.

Need for Applications Overrated

I think the need for development of more applications for webOS is overrated. I think the Palm Pre attracts adult professionals, and it doesn't need a bunch of games and trivial apps aimed at teenagers. The Pre already provides a full suite of business applications plus GPS/Navigation, music player w/Bluetooth stereo, location-based services, social networking, and a bunch of other stuff. The Pre is loaded out of the box.

How can you compare the 2?

How is it that we are comparing a 3rd generation Iphone to a first generation Pre?
Also, does anyone remember how much Apple promoted the Iphone prior to it coming out. Palm/Sprint did not have ONE dedicated commercial about the Pre prior to its release and it still did pretty well. They are just starting to advertise.
Also, there was no app store for the Iphone for almost a year after it was released. Lets give the Pre a little time to get on a level playing field.
I've had an Iphone and I have a Pre now and I love it..... plus I save $600 a year on my bill. Once the apps come it will be perfect and guess what...... I have a keyboard so I can text and drive! LOL
