Amazon.com has once again cut by half the amount shoppers must spend to qualify for its
Super Saver free shipping offer, further escalating the price war it began early this
year. The minimum order size for free shipping is now $25, down from $49. Amazon
described the move as a "long-term test of customer response" that will last at least
three to six months, but noted that the Super Saving shipping option delays the arrival
of purchases by as much as five days.

It´s really interesting how dot coms are looking for new places for revenue, but I guess they forget that there's a world of customers out there and that we're also waiting for an
opportunity to spend our money (as good as any).
For example, I live in Mexico, right next door to the US, and I'm charged for shipping as much as if I were on the other side of the world!!!
Shouldn't they start thinking about new markets which will help them make some more money like they used to???

Agreeing with the previous comment, I cannot understand WHY online stores offer discounts to some of their customers and not others. I have commented on this issue before and I am amazed that STILL nothing has been done about it.
I live in Australia and only a few weeks ago, I bought about $US150 worth of books from Amazon. No free shipping for me. Not even a discount on my shipping - something which a company like Amazon could easily offer to its international customers. Blatantly advertising discounts and offers to certain customers doesn't exactly entice other customers, disadvantaged only by their geographic location, to come back.
If you have a website, you have a global customer base. End of story. Anyone who doesn't acknowledge that fact clearly does not understand the internet and customer reach (which is not a comment often directed to the almost-deified Amazon.com).
