After months of speculation and anticipation, T-Mobile and Google on Tuesday unveiled the G1, a new smartphone manufactured by HTC and the first commercially available handheld to run Google's Android mobile operating system. "[This launch] is a very important milestone event for ... Google, T-Mobile and HTC. This is going to be a very, very important device in the marketplace, and it's going to have a lot of interest from consumers who have a strong affinity for the Google brand," said Michael Gartenberg, vice president mobile strategy, Jupitermedia/mobiledevicestoday.com.
I believe this phone will probably appeal the younger generation. But by being the first generation remains to be seen how it will effect the industry as a whole. Unless they improve their coverage areas, T-Mobile, there is still alot lacking by them for service. Especially with the new buy-outs and take over to be completed this November by Verizon which will insure them to have the largest mobile customer base, the best coverage area, and the best data reception in the mobile phone industry. Another thing I think Google is playing off on the name of their phone too, because Verizon already has a phone of similar name, the GZ1. Strange but true!
