It's been several weeks since Microsoft launched Windows Vista for consumers. During the promotional push, Microsoft's Bill Gates was dogged by questions about Apple, including Apple's popular "Get a Mac" television ad campaign. Imagine the guy's irritation: He's in the middle of trying to promote his shiny new operating system, which he wants everyone to know is leaps and bounds better than XP, and pesky reporters keep prodding him with questions about Macs. Something had to give.

"I've been seeing Apple fixes come out in a very timely manner, but they haven't had a test under fire -- we haven't had a widespread attack," Perry explained. "As long as Apple is fixing things that are still theoretical, how can we judge them on being timely or not timely?"
That's a strange statement to make. If Microsoft pulls a patch tuesday fix that takes care of a known issue that hasn't been exploited yet we say "Good for you Bill!" But Apple regularly releases patches that deal with theoreticals, exploitations that haven't occured yet, and we ask "Can you deal in an emergency?" If they're dealing with perceived threats preemptively do they need to deal in an emergency?
It's all hypothetical but haven't they dealt with major flaws immediately in the past?

The only issues I've ever witnessed on my Mac is when ClamXav flags bad Email Phishing expeditions and malware attachments that affect Windows systems, but are sent to my Mac.
I did add a RootKit once, but as far as I know, it was never released into the wild. All attempts that have been recorded for owning" a Mac have been where the machine was severely crippled to gain access by changing the defaults to "off" (because security is built-in) or where the attacker was physically at the machine (using the Install disc to gain access and change the password access) or dataloggers were allowed by permissions given by the owner of the machine using such software as "Spector" from Spectorsoft.
Gate's comments were all fiction. I'm surprised Apple legal beagles haven't returned the favor with a Libel suit for his blatant and oh-so obvious lies. He tried to out Ballmer Steve Ballmer! And he showed his fear of Apple.
