MacBook and MacBook Pro users may experience performance issues with some of the notebook computers' batteries, Apple said on Friday. The batteries, however, do not pose a safety risk and the Mac maker has issued a software update intended to correct the problem. "Apple has recently discovered that some batteries used in its MacBook and MacBook Pro notebooks may have battery performance issues," Apple said in its battery update. "Apple is offering a software update that is designed to improve battery performance."

I own a macbook, purchased in January. I have experienced many of the symptoms in this article. Very hot under-carriage; sometimes unbearable to have on my lap! I have also had the "X" no charge signal and had a few re-starts without asking. I was convinced that the battery was behaving strangely from the very first day. It has never appeared to last very long. running down quickly; sometimes without any applications running ! Worst of all is the really noisy fan which ruins any chance of live recording.
I also have intermittent trouble, opening from sleep and sometimes the sleep light is not working which leads me to think that it has shut down. several back-spaces later and it comes alive including the sleep light...very strange
I have installed the update and remain hopeful that this problem will be rectified.
