Guitarists out there know that finding that perfect sound, tone or depth from your electric guitar can be an expensive and painstaking process. With the digital age now in full swing, many manufacturers have tapped into computer emulation as a way to duplicate the sounds of guitar setups and amplifiers through software. There are tons of programs out there that promise to deliver, but almost all of them fall flat on their face. That's where Guitar Rig 3 comes along. Guitar Rig 3 is a robust guitar emulation program that does more than just emulate sounds.

Guitar Rig 3

I’ve been in a band where one of the guys has Guitar Rig 2. I often used it for recording my guitar parts and he always used it to record his. He also always used it live on stage by DI-ing straight into the PA via the stage box - it was always supremely simple to use and ultra-reliable, never failing to produce the most excellent sounds.
Good enough reason for me to get GR3 then……
My son had his first go on ours last night and, within half an hour of fiddling around, found a patch which - in his words - “sounds exactly like Warpigs”, so he worked out most of the song there and then!
So on top of all it’s other superb features I think it’s also going to be an excellent and inspirational learning tool for the both of us.
Incidentally, for anyone who may be interested, I’m running GR3 into a Mac with Cubase 4 for sequencing/recording and a Novation X-Station as a mixer / keyboard / controller for the Cubase software. All audio is routed via the X-Station’s onboard soundcard to a pair of M-Audio studio monitors.
