In this final round (for now) of MacNewsWorld's Mac Death Match department, sworn adversaries Bryan Chaffin of The Mac Observer and notorious industry analyst Rob Enderle duke it out over whether or not Apple strategically is moving in the right direction. Strangely, Enderle actually appears to agree with Chaffin on some points Chaffin raised in Round Five -- most specifically, that Apple needs to overhaul its marketing roadmap. Does this mean Chaffin wins by technical KO? Or is Enderle faking him out before his own knockout punch?

I think Enderle's blind spot is pretty much summed up nicely by this line from his last paragraph: "I believe you are either in a market all the way and competing with everything you have, or you are exiting that market." To him, any company not dominating, or attempting to dominate, its market is a lost cause, at best swept under the dismissive rug of "niche market". Either you're winning, and preferably by a huge margin, or you've already lost. He doesn't get it: Apple is never going to beat Microsoft or Dell at their own game; of course not. But that doesn't mean there is no room for Apple to survive, and even thrive. However, recognizing that would require a wider perspective than Enderle's strictly black-or-white, dominating-or-exiting worldview.

Huh? Longhorn will destroy Apple? Does it run on PowerPC architecture? I don't think so. I personally would not be influenced by it. I'm not switching to any flavor of windows. Even if it launches on time, I doubt sub $600 PC buyers would fork over another arm to run it.

I've been in the computer industry since 1971 and in computer retail, on and off, since 1974. currently, I'm a retail sales person for a major national Apple reseller and every day I sell a minimum of two systems, to soon to be former, Windows users. The whole "switcher" campaign has been a real success for me and my store... Windows users that are having a problem with worms, possible virus infection and other malicious code are turning to the Mac and OS X in droves. We are also seeing an above average influx of new users.

Rob Enderle, Rob Enderle's Opinion and steaming pile of dog sh*t all have exactly the same value.
Agreeing with whatever psychotic drivel slips from his lying lips is akin to eating that steaming pile.
Publishing an Enderle article is far below tabloid journalism falling well into the scum journalism territory.

If you've been reading each installment as it comes, it is painfully obvious that Chaffin knows what he is talking about, and Enderle is stuck in one way of thinking which renders him unable to look at apple objectively. Every point that Enderle puts foreward is sucessfully debunked by Chaffin with actuall, documented facts. Enderle usually doesn't usually bother with facts and simply states more opinion, and when he does attempt to use facts they are either irrelevant or incorrect. Enderle is also stuck in the situation of having to draw negative conclusions about apple simply to stay consistent with the predictions he has made in the past. This includes that Apple would have gone under 5 months ago if it didn't switch to intel. As far as I know the only time that Enderle has ever made a prediction involving apple and been correct was when he said that windows was going to become the dominant platform because Apple was sitting on it's thumbs and no longer innovating. At that time Steve Jobs was making the same prediction from his new company NEXT. Since Steve has come back to the company every predicition Enderle has made has been wrong. The only reason he has any credibility anymore is because, A. He WAS correct about windows, and B. When you've got a deadline to get something published Enderly will always give you a great quote. It will more likely than not be completely retarded, but it will probably get noticed and increase visits to your site by mac entusiasts who cannot help but try and address his FUD in the attached message boards
