See Full StoryApple has announced it is now shipping the first of the highly anticipated G5 processors in two models of the Power Mac desktop computer. Billed by the company as the "world's fastest personal computer," the Power Mac G5 takes advantage of 64-bit processing, new cache technology and increased memory support to deliver what industry observers call a long-overdue overhaul of Apple's hardware. Analysts said the PowerPC G5 processor, designed by IBM and Apple, will give Mac users dramatically improved performance in the high-end, gaming and graphics markets.

Is Mac the fastest? At Apple's homesite, there are graphs showing the Mac PC beating Pentium 4s everywhere. BUT there is only one problem. They are showing the Mac with TWO (2)processors against PCs with only ONE (1) processor. If one Intel Xeon processor is nearly as powerful as two Mac G5 processors, then two Intel Xeon processors would kill two G5 processors. The cost is also about the same. Pentium 4s are the same (even though they do not sell computers with two Pentium 4 processors.)It is true Mac will excel PCs at some things, but usually, PCs are better. (My opinion.) I also think PCs are better at burning CDs and DVDs. PCs design are also attractive, and there are more choices than a Mac. You can only get a G4 or a G5, but there are numerous processors for a PC- Pentium III & 4, Pentium 4 wih Hyper-threading, Intel Xeon, Intel Itanium... Plus, Mac just got the 64-bit technology, and PCs already had it.
