In the first month of its availability, Microsoft Vista sold more than 20 million licenses -- more than double the number of first-month sales of Windows XP. In January 2002, the company announced sales of Windows XP licenses had exceeded 17 million after two months on the market. The 20 million figure includes licenses sold to PC manufacturers, upgrade and complete Vista packages sold to retailers, and upgrades ordered through the Windows Vista Express Upgrade program from Jan. 30 to Feb. 28.

Vista: Shipped or "Sold?"

MS has a habit of announcing SHIPPED versus actual sales - do we know what's the scoop here?
MS announed there are 10 million XBoxes "sold." But NPD announced actual store scanned sales as 5.4 million ... substantially different. Is MS playing with numbers again? My Costco's pallet still looks full.
