I think that, for all of us, the battle for the next generation of DVD technology has gotten really old. This week, we'll look at why DreamWorks and Paramount backed HD-DVD, effectively assuring that Blu-ray will lose whether HD-DVD wins or not -- and it may still not win either. Rhapsody picked up the old Microsoft partner MTV, hitting Apple and iTunes where it likely is the most vulnerable. Finally, the product this week is a set of active noise-canceling headphones from Ableplanet that are better, to my ears, than the Bose headphones many of us currently travel with.

Articles like this one serve no purpose other than to illustrate how far your opinion differs from reality with regards to Sony and the Blu-ray Disc format.
The PlayStation 3 is an infant in its life cycle; less than 24 months in a 10-year product. There is more to come for this console, including graphics and gameplay that will embarrass the X-Box and price breaks and incentives that will make it more cost competitive. To write off the PS3 now is an incredibly short-sighted notion, and writing about it in past-tense is sophomoric.
With regards to the "game over" status of your Blu-ray vs. HD-DVD discussion; credible industry resources report definitively that the consumer prefers the Blu-ray Disc format by a factor of two or three, depending on your geography. The second largest retailer in the nation (Target) has chosen Blu-ray Disc over HD-DVD. The largest rental franchise (Blockbuster) has recognized the consumer preference for Blu-ray Disc and, by their own admission, will do whatever the consumer wants. The consumer, to this point, has spoken for Blu-ray Disc, yet somehow they have lost?
The purchasing decisions of the consumer have demonstrated that they prefer Blu-ray Disc format. The HD-DVD camp is paying their constituents.

Despite Paramount's move to HD-DVD, their entire Blu-ray selection was not impressive to begin with. They were not heavily marketing to the Hi Definition format and have made no big announcements regarding new releases. On the other hand, the same day Paramount went exclusive, FOX and MGM emerged from a several month long hiatus to announce over 30 new titles with dates all exclusive to blu-ray. This along with the existing enormous library of Blu-ray discs (which exceeds titles available for HD-DVD) and the new releases from Disney as well, and I can safely say that Blu-ray is not yet dead. In fact, is anything, blu-ray has picked up momentum.
I do not see how Blu-ray will loose based on the information you gave. Blu-ray still has more studios supporting it, still has more companies building players, still has better support, a bigger library of movies, more releases coming out this holiday season, and better prices for the movies (http://www.eproductwars.com/dvd/) than HD-DVD. Oh, and the sales are still outselling HD-DVD 2:1 in USA, 3:1 world-wide. get your facts straight or just don't report.
Also, this reporter treats the PlayStation 3 like a system that is dead and gone, and always uses the past tense. If you were to compare the sales of the XBOX 360 since the release date with the PS3 (http://www.vgchartz.com/), you will see that the PS3 is not as far behind the sales of the XBOX 360 as everyone seems to think. The PlayStation 3 doesn't even have its best games out yet because it is still new and young. It took the PS2 a while to get the really good games out.
As for Rhapsody/MTV weakening iTunes, I would like to see some cold hard numbers that show that Apple is suffering from a loss of sales from itunes due to this. Apple indeed got the lead on the industry, but they didn't just sit back and let the competition take over, they are very active in keeping their products the best available. iTunes was the first to offer DRM free songs and are still perusing this for more songs. I don't see how Apple is vulnerable there since it is where they are actually strongest in sales.
At least I agree that Bose are low quality for the price, and any other speakers/earphones it the same price range are ten times better.
This reporter seems to specialize in spreading lies and misinformation to sell products he backs himself and will make him a bundle.
