Re: Who Deserves the Tech Vote?

Nine months after Barack Obama, John McCain has unveiled his own technology plan for America. At last, both candidates can be graded for their long-term friendliness to the tech sector. Lost beneath the theatrics of Obama's pledge to announce his VP choice via text messaging and McCain's successful YouTube "fan club" videos are the real issues that matter most to the tech sector. One gets a clear sense of how the candidates think about technology from their opening sentences.

Misconception about personnel availability

"On labor, the tech sector has been begging for more work visas, given that America is not producing enough home-grown experts." This comment is ridiculous. I'm an IT grad with certs and yet can't find a job. The problem, as I think everybody on the planet should be aware, is that everyone wants what nobody will give: experience.

I'm so positively sick and tired of hearing "well, you're qualified but you haven't done anything yet". Well no kidding. Nobody will allow me to. Many times now I've seen people who graduated from these so-called universities like ITT Tech and University of Phoenix, and they're college educated idiots, who get hired for a position that I'm more able to perform the duties of and the company gets burned. So now they won't take anyone from the area because they have the misconception that everyone local is an idiot.

Maybe these two putzes that are running for the front office should put some more money in to education, make it easier for people who want a degree to get one. Anybody agree?

The second problem, which neither of them will address, is the fact that Americans are fat, lazy jerks who refuse to learn but beg for more money. I've busted my hump to get where I'm at and I'm tired of having my reputation sullied because those around me don't work hard enough. It's a team effort, people. If you're going to sink your boat don't tie me to the mast.

So, which corporate lobbyist paid you to write this propaganda and precisely how much money did you get? 30 pieces of silver perhaps? This "article" is pure hogwash on what is good for the tech sector.

Missed the point perhaps

Could you have missed the point of this post? I don't think that the author had any desire to influence votes one way or the other. All I see is that she's drawing conclusions from information that is available by comparing the views of the two candidates on certain key issues both mention. It's pretty straight forward: McCain appears to have a better tech analyst and, at least on the surface, seems to better understand the needs of the industry while Obama wants to play the humanitarian card by working with the inner-city and give them a better chance, again on the surface.

I really don't understand why you see this as propaganda. Anyone with just a few neurons can easily see that the conclusions are drawn from that none-too-common-anymore idea of common sense.
