Just three and a half years after Christina Lampe-Onnerud founded Boston-Power to bring new battery technology to devices large and small, her company forged a deal with PC maker HP, which will be the first computer maker to offer laptops with the new Sonata battery. The Sonata can be charged and recharged about 1,000 times, compared to the maximum 150 to 250 recharges many other batteries can bear, according to the company. Their expanded lifespan and their use of fewer ecologically damaging materials put a green tint on Boston-Power's cells. [More...]

Laptop, cell phone and iPod owners tired of having their devices run out of charge after a few hours have been patiently waiting for the next portable power source to arrive. Hawaii has unveiled plans to be first in the nation to roll out electric car stations statewide -- a move the governor hailed as a major step toward weaning the islands off oil. Hawaii imports foreign oil for almost 90 percent of its energy needs. One-third of that oil is used to power cars and buses on island streets. [More...]

The silver Macbook spins slowly in front of an all-white background, as it has in previous Apple television commercials. But this ad's overall spin is different -- instead of talking up digital media, faster processors and more memory, this one mentions toxic chemicals, recyclable aluminum and glass, and energy efficiency. [More...]
