Orange, a subsidiary of France Telecom, has signed a new deal with Apple to offer the iPhone to its customers in several parts of Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Caribbean. The company already has an exclusive deal with Apple to sell the phone in France. The Orange deal follows a series of hookups with several other carriers around the world who signed contracts to sell the iPhone. "Apple wants to dominate the world with the iPhone, and I think they're going to have a varying degree of success, depending upon the country," said wireless analyst Jeff Kagan. [More...]

A growing number of households in the U.S. are hanging up their landline phones, opting instead to use cell phones exclusively, according to a Wednesday report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The six-month survey, conducted from July 2007 to December 2007, found that 22.3 percent of households with both landline and mobile phones use their traditional wired phone lines rarely or not at all.
