HP, AMD Notebook Will Aid Lance Armstrong Foundation

Jo Alber, AMD spokeswoman, told TechNewsWorld that the company and its employees have been supporting the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) through sponsorships, donations and volunteer work since 1997. "We are excited by the opportunity to help empower the LAF and the community it serves using our technology and our established alliances with HP and Lance Armstrong," Albers said.

The Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) has gained another means of fundraising with a special edition notebook computer from Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ) and AMD (NYSE: AMD). The Special Edition L2000 Notebook PC has the Livestrong message on the cover and a reproduction of Lance Armstrong's autograph. HP has pledged that US$50 of the purchase price of each PC will be donated to the LAF.

In the box with the notebook will be a yellow Livestrong wristband and yellow stereo ear buds.

Notebook Donation

As part of the program, HP and AMD will donate notebooks to LAF-funded cancer survivorship centers throughout the United States.

"HP and AMD have come together to create a distinctive, high-performance, thin and light notebook PC," said Mark Sanchez, vice president, North America Consumer Computing, HP. "The introduction of the HP Special Edition L2000 Notebook PC allows consumers to support a worthy cause while they stay connected with friends and family via secure mobile computing."

Jo Alber, AMD spokeswoman, told TechNewsWorld that the company and its employees have been supporting the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) through sponsorships, donations and volunteer work since the LAF was founded in 1997.

Cycling Sponsorship

AMD is also the official technology sponsor of Lance Armstrong and the Discovery Channel Pro Cycling team. The chip-maker said it has made a two-year commitment to help generate a minimum of $4 million for the LAF through the sale of these laptops.

"We are excited by the opportunity to help empower the LAF and the community it serves using our technology and our established alliances with HP and Lance Armstrong," Albers said.

The L2000 weighs 5.3 pounds with high-speed wireless, enhanced virus protection, a 64-bit AMD Turion 64 chip and extended battery life. It will be available for $999 with a 14-inch screen at www.hpshopping.com in June and in retail Increase Customer Sales with Email Marketing -- Free Trial from VerticalResponse stores in July.

The LAF raised $47 million last year. Its goal is to raise $52 million this year, LAF spokeswoman Michelle Milford said. The foundation funds public health, education, research and advocacy programs for people with cancer.
